Moves afoot to protect the Melton Mowbray name

But it would be wrong to say that Dickinson and Morris is the only maker of pork pies in the Melton area.

F. Bailey and Son at Upper Broughton makes and supplies them to outlets around the area.

The pork pie is so important

to Melton that last year the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association was created to protect the Melton name.

It says true Melton pies are hand-raised and not baked in tins, and made within 25 miles of the town with uncured pork and specific ingredients.

The association says any other pork pie maker using the Melton name is an impostor.

With such a high level of commitment to pork pies from makers, fans and townsfolk the pork pie is something that the town will take well into the next Millennium.
